Before getting into the topics that would be on the table, Goldberg introduced the newest member of the show’s family.
“We have a new man behind the camera. Hi Paul,” said Whoopi, and other board members said, “Hi Paul,” while noting the writers’ strike that has affected many other shows in Hollywood.
Near the end of the show, Whoopi welcomed the viewers and held up a card to ask a producer if this was the moment she was clearly not ready for, announcing that producer Rob Bruce Baron was leaving.
Baron has worked in television for more than 40 years and has spent all 26 seasons working for “The View.”
“This is this? Ohh yes,” she said, looking at the card and fighting back tears.
“Rob retires today after 40 years on television. Rob has been with The View since day 1, 26 seasons.”
“Do not go!” Whoopi called out to Rob as she continued to hold back tears.
The show made headlines earlier in the week when Goldberg claimed that “American Idol” contributed to the “beginning of society’s downfall,” which led to an argument with executive producer Brian Teta and some criticism from her own colleagues.
The conversation started when Goldberg kicked off a segment detailing Hawaiian-born 18-year-old singer Iam Tongi winning the show’s 21st season.
“We as a society love to look at things to judge people,” Goldberg said. “You know, I’ve always thought that the start of society’s downfall was with, what’s that show called? I always tell you that, ”she continued, looking at Teta.
