1/2 teaspoon salt
1/2 teaspoon black pepper
2 tablespoons butter
1/4 cup beef broth
1 cup shredded Gruyère or Swiss cheese
1 teaspoon vanilla extract (optional, not typical for meatloaf but can be added for a unique flavor)
