These are toothpaste and baking soda : but how do they clean the iron?
First, we take our iron, turn it to the plate side and sprinkle the toothpaste evenly.
Once finished, sprinkle some baking soda on top , so that the stains are covered evenly. Now let it sit for at least 5-10 minutes , after which use a paper towel or cloth to remove the patina that has formed : you will see that the black stains will have completely disappeared.
Then wipe with a damp cloth and dry thoroughly. The iron will be as good as new. But there are also other effective natural ingredients to clean it, let’s see which ones.
Other natural ingredients to clean the iron
The soleplate of the iron can also be cleaned with other ingredients, in addition to those already suggested above.
In fact, ice can be very useful for removing build-up of dirt or rust on the plate. When the plate is perfectly cold, place it on a baking tray filled with ice cubes, leaving it there for ten minutes.
The dirty part will have hardened and you can try to remove it with a plastic object, a spatula or a splints. Then wash the plate with baking soda and vinegar and remove the residue.
To remove limescale and clean your iron, salt and vinegar together are excellent. Mix one part vinegar with one part salt in a saucepan. Heat the mixture until the vinegar boils. You should cover the cold plate of the iron with this mixture, spreading it out with a cloth or sheets of newspaper.
Rub well until the stains and dirt you want to remove disappear completely : you will see that your iron will be as good as new.
