- Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease a 9×9-inch baking pan and line it with parchment paper, leaving an overhang for easy removal.
- In a medium saucepan, melt the butter over medium heat. Continue cooking, stirring occasionally, until the butter turns golden brown and gives off a nutty aroma. Be careful not to burn it. Remove from heat and let it cool slightly.
- In a large mixing bowl, whisk together the sugar, eggs, and vanilla extract until well combined.
- Slowly pour the browned butter into the sugar mixture, whisking constantly until fully incorporated.
- Sift in the flour, cocoa powder, and salt into the bowl. Gently fold the dry ingredients into the wet ingredients until just combined. Be careful not to overmix.
- If desired, fold in the chocolate chips or chopped chocolate for an extra burst of chocolate goodness.
- Pour the batter into the prepared baking pan and spread it evenly.
- Bake in the preheated oven for 25-30 minutes, or until a toothpick inserted into the center comes out with a few moist crumbs.
- Remove from the oven and let the brownies cool completely in the pan before cutting into squares.
